High school roundup

In recent spring activity:

Baseball

Oak Hill 9, Liberty 6

Aaron McComas, Garrett Thompson (2-for-4) and Brent Brash (double) all drove in two runs as Oak Hill improved to 2-0. Rob Stephens contributed a two-bagger.

Senior B.J. Wallace (1-0) earned the win.

Heath Sevy had two RBIs for the Raiders (0-1).

In an earlier game, the Red Devils shut out rival Fayetteville 7-0 to open the season. Junior Tyler Zimm tossed a no-hitter for Oak Hill, fanning 11 and walking only one.

“He pitched a real good game,” Oak Hill coach Chris Walls said of Zimm.

Walls said Zimm was “the only pitcher I’ve got who’s game ready. He had a 75-pitch limit and pitched 72. Of course, I wouldn’t have taken him out.”

Fayetteville plays at Richwood Monday and at Meadow Bridge Tuesday.

Oak Hill hosts Greenbrier West at 5 p.m. today.

The Pirates raised their record to 2-2 Thursday.

Stephanie Nickell went the distance on the mound, yielding only two Lumberjack hits.

For the FHS offense, Beth George was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Erica Payne was 2-for-4 and knocked in two.

Fayetteville entertains Greenbrier West Monday.
