OAK HILL — The 1360 Wal-Mart Rollbacks had their first charity basketball game recently against the Fayette County Deputy Sheriff’s Association. Originally slated for Midland Trail High School, a change of venue was needed at the last minute, and Mountain View Christian School stepped in and offered a place to play.
The two teams raised almost $900 for Wal-Mart Charities, the Fayette County American Cancer Society and WVU Children’s Hospital Network. Pregame entertainment was provided by 19-year-old Ann Louise Sumpter. Halftime entertainment was provided by the Junior Jazzercizers under the direction of Rhonda Chuyka.
The game went back and forth most of the afternoon, but the DSA Sharpshooters prevailed by two points. Highlights of the game included a successful halfcourt shot by Rollback Ronnie Webb, which raised $200. C.C. and Barbra Bays offered $100 for someone to make thet shot and the deputies doubled the pot. Also, Chris Campbell issued a $50 challenge for someone to dunk the ball, and his brother, Cpl. Shawn Campbell, rose to the challenge.
The Rollbacks were captains Pat Alton and Joe Ashley, Dewayne Lesher, Steve Angus, Richard Petitt, Rosie Legg, Ronnie Webb, Jerry Martin, Marty Gibson, Susie Schoolcraft and Chris Fitzwater. The Sharpshooters included Shawn Campbell, Keith McGraw, Nick Mooney, Chuck Wysong, James Bowles, Phillip Pack, Jess McMullen, Jack Brown, Rod Perdue and Steve Yarber.
Cheerleaders for the Rollbacks were Abigayle Hollandsworth, Chasity Hawks, Emily and Katie Rollins and Lexis Underwood. Cheerleaders for the deputies were female associates from Wal-Mart. (Former W-M associate Karen Treadway, who passed away in February, proposed that idea). They were Yolanda Brown, Arnita Jackson and Sue Hill. Helping them were Arnita’s grandchildren, Alexis Staunton and Devin Jackson.
Others helping make the game a success were Brandon Dorsey, Matt Harper, Dustin Smith, Libby Campbell, Chris Campbell, Bob Hollandsworth, Sarah Bragg, Pam Carter, Lynn Lucas, Fallon Underwood, Amanda Hollandsworth, Arneta Jackson, Dewayne Lesher, MTHS assistant principal Randy Halsey, Sadie Smith and granddaughter Brittany, Jeanie Roat, Veronica Wesley, Georganna Ingram, Donald Flint, Daisy Shrout and Kenny Pennington.
