Summer sports camps still being staged in area

Following are local sports camps still planned this summer:



WVU Tech will stage a football camp for local youths from Monday through Wednesday, July 14-16 on campus. Campers 12-and-under will go through drills from 9 a.m. to noon each day, and campers at the middle and high school level will take part from 1-4 p.m.

Fee is $40 per camper.

Concord University will host the Lady Lions Instructional Basketball Camp June 29 to July 2.

The camp is under the direction of Kenny Osborne, CU’s head women’s hoops coach, whose teams have posted back-to-back 20-win seasons.

The camp will be for girls from ages 8 to 18. Cost is $200 for residential campers, and $130 for commuters with no meals (a meal ticket of $40 may be purchased for commuters).

Hawks Nest Golf Course is offering free golf lessons until August. They will be taught by coach Chuck Goosman.

Lessons for children ages 7 to 17 will be on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m., and adults 18 to 81 will be on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m.

Clubs and balls will be furnished.

Mountain State University will hold the following basketball camps this summer:

-- June 30 and July 1, 2, 3, 17 and 18 — individual sessions for grades 4 through 12;

-- July 7-9 — defensive camp for grades 7 to 12;

-- July 10-11 — big man camp for grades 8 to 12; and

-- July 14-16 — offensive camp for grades 7 to 12 (featuring shooting).

All camps are for boys and girls and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the exception of the June 16-20 camp, which is from 9 a.m. to noon.
