MH wins own hoops tourney; Pirate boys, OH and MB girls triumph

Da’Von Marion exploded for a game-high 37 points to lead Mount Hope to victory in the championship game of the Groovy 94.1 Pepsi Invitational last weekend.

Kyle James added 18 points for the Mustangs (3-0).

Cameron Cochran and Anthony Underwood led Valley with 13 points apiece.



Independence 73 Fayetteville 55



Colton Ratcliff netted 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to power Independence’s 73-55 win over Fayetteville Monday.

Also for Indy (3-0), Anthony Stump scored 19 and Jeremy Buchanan 18.

Fayetteville (2-1) got 20 points from Troy Hopkins, 12 from Nich Carte and 10 from Steven Fruit.



Meadow Bridge 54 Mount Hope 44



Kristen Redden led a balanced attack with 13 points for Meadow Bridge in the overtime affair Monday.

Holly Gunnoe added 11 and Kelly Forren 10.

Mount Hope got a game-high 21 points from Cindy Hillberry.

The Wildcats (3-2) host Covington, Va., Dec. 29 in The Greenbrier Hotel Invitational Tournament.

The Eagle girls pulled away in the second half for the win Monday.

Dannielle Matheny led Oak Hill (1-2) with eight points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Shakiyla Cosby added six rebounds and two blocked shots.



Fayetteville 57 Greenbrier West 51



Troy Hopkins sank five three-pointers and finished with 23 points to pace Fayetteville Friday.

Nich Carte contributed 17 points for the Pirates (2-0).

Nathan Brackenridge led West (0-3) with 19 points.

Midland Trail 55



Kevin Keith scored 31 points as Liberty rolled in its season opener.

Midland Trail (1-1) got 18 from Dustin Nickell and 13 from Nathan Syner.



Oak Hill 52

Richwood 40



Kristen White set a school record for three-pointers in one game, knocking down eight, in the Oak Hill girls’ win over Richwood.

White finished with 24 points to lead the Red Devils (1-1).

Teammate Dannielle Matheny chipped in nine points, five rebounds and five steals.

Tasha Phillips led Richwood with 14 points.



Charleston Catholic 48

Fayetteville 38



Emily Blake led Charleston Catholic with 14 points as the Irish fought back from a 38-35 deficit with two minutes to play.

Cayla Rhodes had a monster game for Fayetteville (4-2), finishing with 24 points and 25 rebounds.

Kassie Cook scored 12 points and Bre Newkirk 10 for visiting Riverside Friday.

Kelly Forren and Kristen Redden both scored nine for Meadow Bridge (2-2).
