Concord University will host the Lady Lions Instructional Basketball Camp June 29 to July 2. The camp is under the direction of Kenny Osborne, CU’s head women’s hoops coach, whose teams have posted back-to-back 20-win seasons.

The camp will be for girls from ages 8 to 18. Cost is $200 for residential campers, and $130 for commuters with no meals (a meal ticket of $40 may be purchased for commuters).

The Oak Hill Midget Football League will stage registration for cheerleaders on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new fieldhouse. The following ages will apply: A-team — 11-12; B-team — 9-10; C-team — 6-8; and pom-pom — 4-5.

The fee is $35.

The David S. Roth Memorial 5K Walk/Run will be held at Concord University in Athens on Tuesday, May 6.

Race-day registration begins at 5 p.m. in Carter Hall. The race begins at 6:15 p.m. at the track.

For participants who pre-register by May 5, the entry fee is $5 for students of all ages, and $10 for others. For those who register on May 6, the entry fee is $6 for students, and $12 for others.

Sponsored by the Concord Student Government Association, the Roth 5K Walk/Run supports the Roth Scholarship fund established to honor the memory of Dr. David S. Roth. Roth, who taught English and journalism at Concord from 1969 to 1986, was an enthusiastic supporter of Concord athletics.

The David S. Hypes Memorial 5-mile run and 5-K walk is scheduled for May 4 on the Muddlety Trail in Summersville.

Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. with the race following at 2 p.m.

Organizers will again give two $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Over the past three years, they have given $5,000 to graduating seniors.
