The WVU Tech men’s soccer program improved to 8-1 on the season while capturing its second win over a USCAA opponent, defeating Warren Wilson College 5-1.
The Owls of got out to a quick 1-0 lead early in the match before head coach Luis Cortell made a 10-man shift change.
The immediate substitution 10 minutes into the game ignited a five-goal scoring binge by the Golden Bears. Rodrigo Manzanares opened the scoring blitz off of a swift touch pass by Dennis Fürst. The Bears took the lead just before halftime when Manzanares connected again to the back of the net.
Second-half action started back up when Mario Paz connected on a free kick. Paz’s strike curled around the near post from 20 yards out to make the score 3-1. Minutes later, Fürst connected with a cross to forward Joe Jackson, who headed the ball between the pipes with 30 minutes left in the match.
Fürst later added his second goal of the match off an assist by Drew Owens.
