OHHS golfers seek to maintain momentum

MONTGOMERY — After being road warriors for much of the early part of the golf season, Oak Hill High has returned more frequently to its home course at White Oak Country Club of late.

Six of the Red Devils’ first seven matches were away, second-year coach Randal Rosiek said.

“It was kind of tough to start the season (that way),” Rosiek said last week as his team settled into a string of four straight home matches. “We got off to a little slow start.

“We’re now starting to get some momentum we hope to carry to the end of the year.”

Oak Hill was 17-6 prior to matches late last week.

Senior Craig Buchanan, a state qualifier a year ago after firing a 64 in region tournament play, has led the Red Devils in the No. 1 position again this year.

Others offering good play have included veteran seniors Michael Nibert and Kenny Snuffer and younger players such as sophomores David Thompson and Devon Elder. Other squad members include senior Jordon Messer, junior Sarah Kessler and sophomores Jesse Crist and Addison Boley.

Recently, the Red Devils came up two strokes short of Princeton, while defeating Greenbrier East and Woodrow Wilson, in a match at Pipestem. Before that, they lost to Shady Spring at White Oak.

They host Princeton today and Nicholas County on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Class AAA Region 3 competition will be staged Sept. 30 at Berry Hills Country Club.
