Fans urged to celebrate Mountaineer Nation Day on Sept. 7

MORGANTOWN — Mountaineer Nation Day, a day for Mountaineer fans to show their pride and passion for WVU, will take place Sept. 7 when the West Virginia football team travels to Oklahoma to play the Sooners in primetime on FOX.

You can register your watch party for the game with OU at http://MountaineerNationDay.wvu.edu. Last year, 424 parties registered from 37 states and seven countries.

Fans who consider themselves the ultimate Mountaineer fan can register for the contest on Facebook. You must enter up to a 150-word essay, up to five photos in an album and up to a one-minute video if you choose. For more specific rules, visit the Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/wvumountaineers. Fans have until Aug. 25 to register before the top eight finalists are chosen. From that point, WVU fans across the world can vote for who they think is the 2013 Ultimate Mountaineer Fan.

The winner will receive two Hail WV passes, two suite tickets in the alumni box and a parking pass for the Iowa State football game on Nov. 30, a 2013 official WVU fan shirt and other officially licensed WVU prizes. The runner-up will receive two tickets to the Iowa State game and a WVU prize pack. The third-place finisher will receive a WVU prize pack.

People under the age of 18 are not eligible to win. Employees of the state of West Virginia and its subdivisions, agencies or departments, including West Virginia University, and family members of employees of West Virginia University, are not eligible to win. Persons considered to be recruitable student-athletes are not eligible to win prizes due to NCAA regulations. Previous Ultimate Mountaineer Fan winners are not eligible to win.

Follow WVU’s Twitter account (@WestVirginiaU) for more information leading up to Mountaineer Nation Day, including contests on the day of the game to win officially licensed WVU products. You can also follow WVU on Instagram (@WestVirginiaU) to have even more chances to win a WVU prize pack prior to the game with the Sooners.

Remember to use #WVUMND on any of your social media accounts to let officials know you’re ready for the big day.

While WVU employees are ineligible to participate in the contest, they may compete for a WVU prize pack by submitting photos of themselves or their office showing off their Mountaineer spirit. Send photos to trademarklicensing@mail.wvu.edu.

All winners will receive a limited edition official Mountaineer Nation Day T-shirt. You can’t find these shirts in stores, either, so it’s your only chance to earn one.
