Midland Trail posted a 3-0 win in a quad wrestling match Saturday at home against Wyoming East and the junior varsity squads from Greenbrier West and Clay.
Team results overall were: Midland Trail, 3-0; Greenbrier West JV, 2-1; Wyoming East, 1-2; and Clay JV, 0-3.
After the team rounds, the schools created a four-man bracketed tournament in each weight class to allow the athletes more matches for the day, according to Midland Trail coach Charlie Pritt.
Two other schools — the Shady Spring JV and Lincoln County — didn’t participate as originally planned.
“We plan to have this tournament every year on the third Saturday (of January),” said Pritt. “We plan on expanding to 10 teams next year.”
Senior Ethan Barker, 28-4 at 182 pounds, and senior Devon Steele, 27-9 at 120, had posted Trail’s best individual records prior to the Saturday event. Senior Noah Feltner stood at 16-8 in the 220-pound class, and sophomore Trisha Lee had compiled a 14-10 mark at 113.
Other participants include: Dakota Jones, senior, 145; Andrew Dickerson, freshman, 145; Colton Blevins, senior, 152; Christian McGuire, freshman, 195; Scott Chuyka, freshman, 220; Garrett Coleman, senior, 285; and Joe Willis, freshman, 285.
The remainder of the Patriots’ schedule is as follows: Feb. 1-2 — Coalfield Conference tournament, Greenbrier West; Feb. 9 — Poca Duals; Feb. 15-16 — Region 3 tournament, Independence; and Feb. 21-23 — State tournament, Huntington.
