Red Devil nine making progress

— Chad Quesenberry liked what he saw from his Oak Hill Red Devils earlier this week against visiting Woodrow Wilson.

The Red Devils gained a 4-3 baseball win in eight innings over the Flying Eagles on Monday.

“We battled,” said Quesenberry, Oak Hill’s first-year coach.

Wes Stowers had three hits, including the game-winning RBI, to lead Oak Hill. Daniel Pritt added two hits and a RBI for the Red Devils, who improved to 4-6.

Ray Sullivan pitched the eighth inning to get the win after Chris Hysell threw seven solid innings. After spotting Woodrow an early lead, Hysell “bared down and set ‘em down.”

Logan Wriston smacked two doubles and drove in two runs and Hunter Greco had two hits for the Flying Eagles.

Quesenberry said it’s taken some time for Oak Hill to get going.

“We may not necessarily be young on paper, but we’re young in game experience,” he said. “We started off a little shaky, but we’re starting to see them click and turn the corner.

“It takes time.”

One of the strengths of his team, the coach says, is the top of the batting order.

“We’ve got a lot of speed at the top of the lineup. I’d put our 1-2-3 (Austin Nolen, Wes Stowers and Daniel Pritt) up against anybody in the state,” he said.

Oak Hill was slated to play at South Charleston Wednesday.
