SS girls, Valley boys are tourney winners

In recent high school basketball games:

Shady Spring 52

Meadow Bridge 31


Abigail Gwinn scored a game-high 18 points and Morgan Hylton added 15 as Shady Spring defeated Meadow Bridge 52-31 Saturday to win the championship of the Wildcat Invitational.

Courtney Mullins led Meadow Bridge with 13 points.

Shady (3-4) defeated Oak Hill 70-48 in the semifinals. Meadow Bridge (5-1) will go to Richwood at 7 p.m. Thursday.

In the tournament’s middle school division, Ansted defeated Meadow Bridge 49-34 for the boys championship, while Marlinton  downed Richwood 36-27 in the consolation game. On the girls side, Meadow Bridge took the title with a 20-12 win over Ansted, and Marlinton beat Richwood 33-25 for third place.

Henry Barron-Houchins scored 22 points as Valley defeated host Sissonville in the foul-plagued championship game of the Wesbanco Tournament.

Barron-Houchins was 13 of 17 at the line as the teams combined for 84 free throw attempts.

Zac Warden added 17 points and Raeshawn Breckenridge 16 for the Greyhounds, who defeated Ripley 51-34 in the semifinals.

Valley (4-0) will host Midland Trail Friday.

The host Flying Eagle boys enjoyed a 41-16 edge in rebounding and overcame a cold shooting night to down the Red Devils Saturday.

Jalen Jones and Marc Logan led the Red Devils with nine points each. Joey Re added eight points.

Reserve center Noah Hancock paced Woodrow with 15 points, along with four rebounds. Carrington scored 12 points and had five steals along with his game-high 13 rebounds. Chase Hancock also had 12 points.

Oak Hill (2-3) plays at Fayetteville Friday.

Woodrow (1-1) travels to Greenbrier East Saturday.
