— With the start of the 2014 season rapidly approaching, the Concord University baseball team has been featured in two national preseason polls. The Mountain Lions were ranked 28th in the nation in the College Baseball Lineup Preseason Top-30 poll while also receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason poll.

Concord is set to return 23 players from its 2013 squad that led the nation in batting average (.357) and runs scored (523), set a school-record in victories (36), won the final West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and earned a berth into the NCAA Playoffs.

Amongst the returnees are 2013 all-region honorees junior Ryan Johnston (.404 average, 68 runs, 11 home runs, 66 RBIs), senior Joey Miller (.342 average, 55 runs, 15 home runs, 70 RBIs), senior Bret Blevins (.363 average, 53 runs, 40 RBIs, 28 stolen bases), sophomore Andrew Seigel (.376 average, 57 runs 27 stolen bases) and senior Chris Baker (8-2, 3.33 ERA, 28 strikeouts, 48.2 innings pitched).

Other standouts returning in 2014 include the bats of junior Jerrod Groves (.355 average, 48 runs, 42 RBIs, 13 stolen bases) and sophomore Joe Camp (.387 average, three home runs, 30 RBIs) as well as the pitching trio of senior Ryan Weatherholtz (4-2, 3.77 ERA, 41 strikeouts, 62 innings pitched), junior Kevin Mack (5-0, 2.97 ERA, 57.2 innings pitched) and senior Tyler Coyle (7-4, 36 strikeouts, 64 innings pitched).

The Mountain Lions are scheduled to begin their 2014 campaign Feb. 15 at Mount Olive College. Concord's home opener is set Feb. 22 against Pitt-Johnstown.

TNA Entertainment will present Impact Wrestling in Beckley at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The event will be staged at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center at 200 Armory Drive, Beckley.

Bully Ray leads the list of Impact Wrestling stars, along with Magnus, Mr. Anderson, Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle, “The IT Factor” Bobby Roode and “The Cowboy” James Storm.

Tickets start at $15 and are now available at the convention center box office, online at or by phone at 304-252-7361.

Fans who purchase a $65 ticket will meet select Impact Wrestling superstars at an early-entry autograph session at 5:30 p.m.
