Local high schools post wins

In recent high school games:

Fayetteville 9

Buffalo 7

James Criss hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs and lead Fayetteville past Buffalo Thursday.

Zach Hopkins, Will Dooley and Jake Cogar added two hits apiece for the Pirates (8-6).

“The kids played pretty well,” said Fayetteville coach Dan Poland. “It was a good win for us.”

John Fisher led the Bison with two hits.

The Patriot girls gained their first victory of the season with the decision over Mount View.

For Midland Trail, Maddi Syner had two RBIs and Marissa Workman drove in one run.

Jesika Cooper had seven steals.

Makenna Nickell pitched a complete game, striking out two.

Emily Carte had a solid defensive game with five putouts.

Midland Trail also won the jayvee game by a 16-7 verdict. The Patriots were led by Fairan Gill, who hit a home run in addition to handling pitching chores.

Greenbrier East 10

Oak Hill 0

Victoria Krystynak fired a one-hitter, and Aly King ripped a 3-run homer in the first inning to lift Class AAA No. 11 Greenbrier East.

Krystynak (5-0) faced 10 batters, striking out four and walking two.

Janie Vallandingham and Mikayla O’Brien had two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Hanna Johnson had the sole hit for Oak Hill.
