Groves sweeps WV Senior Series at Bridge Haven

— Last Wednesday was a milestone day for Lewisburg’s Jerry Groves. Not only did he turn 60, he got to move up a set of tees, won the Little General Low Round of the Day and picked up two skins — an eagle on the par-5 seventh and ninth holes. Groves shot a 2-under-par 69 at Bridge Haven Golf Club near Fayetteville.

The tournament dodged the rain, as 65 players came out to play the challenging course. Multiple-time winner, Harold Payne, won the Senior flight in a card-off to Spencer’s Rick Moore, with both shooting a 76.

While Groves won the Silver flight, his fellow Lewisburg Elks partner, Buck Steele, picked up second place, also winning in a card-off over Canvas’ Dave Jones.

South Charleston’s Bill Monk picked up his first low round of the season for the Gold flight, shooting a 74, while Beckley’s Ira Lee finished one stroke back for second.
