At a recent West Virginia Amateur qualifier at Grandview Golf Club, 14 players were added to the 100-player field, with St. Albans’ Jeff Bryant winning the low round medalist award by shooting 1-under-par.
A score of 77 made it into the championship, and four players were in a playoff for the final spots. One made it in to the tournament, while two will be alternates for the Amateur.
Oak Hill’s Nathaniel Begley was among the qualifiers after shooting 40-36—76.
Local players who played but failed to qualify included:
-- Aaron Kemlock, Oak Hill — 37-41—78;
-- David Cassis, Fayetteville — 40-39—79; and
-- Noah Oliver, Fayetteville — 41-40—81.
The 94th West Virginia Amateur will be Aug. 5-8 at The Greenbrier. Players will compete on the resort’s Old White TPC and Greenbrier courses.
