Lilly’s game-winner lifts Oak Hill girls; MT boys, Fayetteville girls post wins

In recent high school basketball contests:

Oak Hill 45

Midland Trail 44

Madison Lilly stole the ball with six seconds remaining and converted the game-winning layup to lift the Oak Hill Red Devils past Midland Trail in girls action Tuesday at the Lilly Center.

“We had two pretty bad turnovers and two fouls (that sent Oak Hill to the line),” said Midland Trail coach Matt Harper, whose team held a four-point lead with less than a minute remaining before the hosts rallied.

Savannah Keffer scored a game-high 14 points to lead Oak Hill (5-8), and Lilly finished with 13 points.

Madison Syner led the Patriots (6-5) with 13 points, and Emily Carte added 10.

Midland Trail didn’t help itself with a 17 of 61 performance (21.7 percent) from the field. “(Shooting) was the biggest thing that hurt us. We can’t get over the hump. One of these days we’ll shoot 40 percent and blow somebody out,” Harper said.

Trail will host Meadow Bridge at 7 p.m. tonight, then will play Tug Valley at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday at St. Marys in the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament.
