MONTGOMERY —
Former WVU Tech football coach Scott Tinsley has been appointed as the school’s head golf coach.
Tinsley is entering his first full season as the golf coach after leading the Golden Bear football program for the past four seasons until the program was eliminated last fall.
Prior to Tech, Tinsley’s most recent coaching stint was at Nitro High School, where he coached football for 12 years, compiling a 51-20 record with the Wildcats and a state championship in 1998.
The St. Albans native began his playing career as quarterback for Appalachian State University from 1981 to 1982 before an injury sidelined him as a player. From 1983 to 1988, Tinsley served as an assistant coach with ASU before joining WVU Tech’s football staff as an assistant in 1989. Tinsley then coached for two years as the head coach at West Virginia State University prior to accepting the offensive coordinator position at Nitro in 1995.
Tinsley served as the Nitro offensive coordinator and head coach for six years apiece. While at Nitro, he also served as the girls basketball coach for 12 years and softball coach for seven years.
