Top-seeded ‘Cats to face Montcalm
MEADOW BRIDGE — Meadow Bridge has already defeated Montcalm twice this season.
Doesn’t mean much, Wildcat coach Ed McCall warns.
Meadow Bridge (12-6) earned 69-46 and 54-38 victories over Montcalm this year. “We didn’t play well the first time, but we played a little better in the second game,” McCall said.
“The team I saw play last night (in the Class A Region 3, Section 2 opener Monday) had lost to Big Creek twice and beat them,” McCall added. “They’re playing with more confidence and more aggressiveness.
“They lost twice to us and could come back and beat us.”
The Wildcats, the tournament’s top seed, and the Generals will play at 6 p.m. tonight at PikeView High School in one of the Section 2 semifinals. In the other, Greater Beckley Christian will tangle with Iaeger. This past Monday, Greater Beckley defeated Mercer Christian 67-30, while Montcalm got by Big Creek 45-40.
The championship is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, also at PikeView.
McCall is cautious when discussing the chances of his squad, losers of two straight, this week.
“I can’t remember when we played last,” he said. “I don’t know what our psyche is.
“I’ve never been through a season like this, a year like this, a school term like this. And add on the (school system) take-over. It hasn’t been the most pleasant year.”
Meadow Bridge has also had to deal with the ineligibility of two players, including one starter, at mid-term due to grades, and the dismissal of two others, including a starter.
