Valley High School’s Abby Buchan is shown at last weekend’s USATF National Junior Olympics Track and Field Championship meet in Greensboro, N.C. Buchan, who will be a junior this fall, placed 10th in the javelin in the 15-16-year-old division at the meet, narrowly missing all-American status. Her best throw was 31.8 meters. “I told her ‘Tenth in the nation; that’s not bad,’ ” said coach Marshall Murray, who helped coach Buchan and other Capital City Striders performers. Buchan also competed in the 100-meter dash and the 4x100 relay, but “her main focus was on the javelin,” Murray said. “She couldn’t wait to get to that.”
