Ramseys win Father-Child title at Glade

DANIELS — Bluefield’s Bob and Ben Ramsey last week won their first West Virginia Father-Child Championship at the Resort at Glade Springs.

The team, along with 110 others, suffered tough conditions throughout the weekend, with a two-hour rainstorm delay on the next-to-last day that set up the courses for even tougher conditions for the final round.

Each team played the resort’s Cobb and Stonehaven courses, alternating each day. Following the round, teams were divided into flights based on scores.

Going into the final round, the Ramseys were just one stroke off the lead. They ended the tournament at 17-under-par, and Bill and Chris Ward were runners-up, just two strokes back.

Winning the first flight were defending champions Doug and Chris Williams, who shot a solid 12-under-par 132. Randy Rogers and Mason Humphrey, of Vienna, won the second flight, also finishing at 12-under.

Huntington’s Mark and Brandon Tolliver brought home the trophy for the third flight, defeating Rollie and Sean Erwin in a sudden-death playoff. In the fourth flight, Joe and Michael DeMarco went head-to-head with Bill and Scott McClure, also of Huntington. The playoff went to four holes before the DeMarcos won.

In the fifth flight, Patrick and Riley Allen secured their victory after posting a 66 on the Stonehaven course. Zachary West and Edward Drain won the sixth by just one stroke, while Vienna’s Barb and Paul Astorg took home first place in the first-ever mother-son division. Kenny and Reid Frye captured top honors in the professional division.

Randal Rosiek Sr. and Randal Rosiek Jr. shot 66-67—133, Wayne and Matt Moreau shot 68-71—139 and Ed and Maclyn McCall shot 72-73—145.
