— Concord University softball coach Alisa Tasler has announced plans to hold an individual skills camp for girls ages 8-18 July 15-17 at the Concord softball field. The camp is open to beginners and advanced players.

Players new to fast-pitch softball will be instructed on the fundamental aspects by learning the basic and proper techniques to help establish a solid foundation for both offense and defense. Pitching and catching skill development will also be taught.

Residential campers will pay $200, which covers all meals and a room for the duration. A camper planning to stay overnight should bring casual summer clothes, swim wear, complete practice outfits, socks, tennis shoes, glove, cleats, helmet and bat if available, as well as towels, toiletries, pillow, linens for a twin bed, a blanket, and spending money. Catchers will need to bring their own catching gear.

The cost for those wishing to commute daily is $150. The Concord University cafeteria will be available for meals to all commuters. Meal prices will be made available on the first day of camp. A two-meal-a-day ticket for the week may be purchased for an additional $30.

Campers should plan to arrive on the first day of camp at 1 p.m. Registration will take place in the lobby of the Carter Center between 1 and 2 p.m. The first session will begin at 2:30 p.m. Camp will conclude at 3 p.m. on July 17.

Oak Hill Midget League is having sign-ups for football, cheerleading and dance on July 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants must have a birth certificate and applicable fees. Physicals are due at first practice.

Anyone interested in coaching is asked to see a board member during sign-ups or send a letter of intent addressed to OHMFL, Box 207, Oak Hill, WV 25901.


Coast to Coast Baseball invites local players ages 10 to 18 to an upcoming tryout event.

Locally, an event will be held at West Virginia State University in Institute on Wednesday, July 10. The tryout begins at 10 a.m. and the hitting camp at 2 p.m.
