GAULEY BRIDGE —
Mega Pro Wrestling will hold its second card at the old Gauley Bridge High School on Friday, July 19. Highlighting the Friday Night Hunger Fight event will be the ongoing tournament to crown an extreme heavyweight champion.
Ricky Morton will battle Kevin Sullivan in an extreme rules match, with the winner advancing to the finals. In the other half of the brackets, Ivan Koloff will face Andrew Anderson in a Russian chain match.
Also, MPW heavyweight champion Eric Steel will defend his title against Matt Canard. Serving as guest referee will be former Extreme Championship Wrestling champ Shane Douglas.
In other matches, Shane Mathews will go up against Smokey C and Jason “The Gift” Kincaid will take on Zac Vincent.
Opening bell time will be 8 p.m. Doors will open for a VIP session at 7 p.m. and for all others at 7:30 p.m. From 7 to 8 p.m., the ring will be open for any small children who want to get in and play, said Mega Pro Wrestling’s Chris Hughes. “Kids love to bounce around the ring,” said Hughes.
Tickets are $20 for VIP (early entrance and meet-and-greet), $15 front row, $12 ringside, $10 general admission and $7 for children ages 6-13. Children 6-and-under get in free.
MPW, in conjunction with Union Mission, will have a canned food drive. Any fan who brings in a non-perishable can of food will get a free meet-and-greet with Shane Douglas and Kevin Sullivan. Part of the evening’s proceeds will also go to the Union Mission.
On the heels of a May 31 show in Gauley Bridge, Hughes said he’s anticipating the second night of action at his alma mater.
“I was very excited (with the first show),” he said. “We had pretty good response.”
Hughes says the July 19 event — and future shows planned for Gauley — will be taped to be shown on TV and the Internet. A DVD of the entire tournament process will also be released at some point.
Bringing “old school wrestling” back to the fans is the key, Hughes stressed.
The ultimate goal, he added, is to have a TV contract and film monthly in Gauley Bridge.
