Oak Hill edged in AAA debut

James Lawrence scored four touchdowns for the Elkins Tigers to defeat Oak Hill in a season opening shootout Friday.
The Red Devils, debuting in Class AAA after several years in the Class AA ranks, rallied from a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to tie the game before a late fumble deep in their own end zone spelled disaster for Oak Hill.
Running back Jalen Jones picked up where he left off last year with another huge effort. Jones rushed for 164 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Red Devils.
Oak Hill also had touchdowns from K.K. Goodman on a 16-yard run and a 58-yard strike from Deon Marion to Jerrell Green.
Oak Hill (0-1) hosts Webster County Friday.

Cody Winter and Henry Barron scored two rushing touchdowns apiece and Hunter Adkins added another to build the commanding first Valley lead.

Midland Trail 6
On a night that saw Independence honor 12 new inductees into its Hall of Fame, the Patriots from Coal City defeated Midland Trail 24-6.
Midland Trail found its way into the end zone with 1:32 left to play in the fourth when Jake Grimmett found Ethan Baker for a 50-yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 24-6.
Grimmett served as the backup quarterback (two attempts for 50 yards and one touchdown) as well as rushing for 28 yards on six carries. Grimmett also had a 50-yard and 51-yard punt late in the game.
Independence is off this week, while Midland Trail heads to Fayetteville to take on the Pirates this Friday.
