Tech teams post wins

In recent WVU Tech men’s and women’s basketball games:

Maine-Fort Kent 60

The Golden Bear men romped past the University of Maine-Fort Kent at the Baisi Center Thursday in their first outing of 2013.

Tech led at halftime 45-15 and was ahead by 49 points at one stage.

Terrale Clark (eight rebounds) and Jaren Marino (seven rebounds and four assists) tallied 17 points each to lead five players in double-digits for the Bears (9-9). David Rawlinson contributed 16 points, five steals and three assists, Floyd Campbell had a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Kornilous Donnell supplied 10 points, eight boards, five steals and four assists.

Others in the scoring column were: Hunter Lambert, 9; Eddie Gordon, 6; Cam Powell, 3; and Joe Saunders, 2.

Yoshives Belizaire led the visitors with 22 points.

“It’s been a season of injuries for us,” said Tech coach Bob Williams. “Against Shawnee State, we had seven players, and we’ve had nine the past two games.

“Walk-ons are still playing significant minutes.”

Among those who have been unavailable for Williams in recent weeks have been No. 2 guard Brandon Burgraff, who averages 11.0 points per game and is the team’s best outside shooting threat. Burgraff was sidelined with a knee injury on which he’s since had surgery.

“We need to get him back,” Williams said.

Milligan College 72

The Tech women improved to 8-9 overall Monday with the narrow verdict at home.

Amy Gardner tallied 26 points and pulled down seven rebounds to power the triumph. Courtney Sturdivant added 16 points and seven boards.

Tech travels to Rio Grande Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.



Notre Dame College 94

The Golden Bear women went on the road last Saturday and dropped the 23-point verdict.

Courtney Sturdivant led the way for Tech with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Cheyanna Lusk contributed eight points, six rebounds and four assists.

Amy Gardner collected 14 points, Nia Nolan 12 and Amber Tully nine.



Salem International 93

WVU Tech 65

Tech got out of the gates with an 11-4 lead Saturday, but the Salem International men wound up leading 50-41 at halftime and cruising to the victory.

Kornilous Donnell led the Golden Bears with 15 points and six rebounds, while Terrale Clark contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists. David Rawlinson had 11 points and seven assists.

Kenneth McCornell led SIU with 28 points.
