Below is a review of recent middle school basketball action:
On Jan. 23, the Fayetteville girls raised their record to 11-2 after falling behind early, building up a 12-point lead heading into the final period and holding off the Little Devils’ charge.
“Our girls turned up their defensive pressure to create many opportunities in the second quarter,” said Fayetteville coach Phil Samples. “Our defensive press in the third quarter was the difference again, creating steals and scoring chances.”
Faith Norris scored 12 points to pace the Pirates. Others in the scoring column included: Caroline Fenton, 6; Hannah Franklin, 2; Amaya Grant, 2; and Kendall Malay, 1.
Madison Lilly tallied five to lead Collins. Others in the scoring column were: Cydney Thomas, 3; Emily Reeves, 2; Brooke Daniels, 2; Tae’a Scruggs, 2; Sian Smith, 2; and Sierra Jones, 2.
Mullens used a 9-1 second-quarter advantage en route to the narrow victory.
Fayetteville managed to pull even, 25-25, with about 1:30 left in the game, but the Pirates couldn’t connect on some late scoring opportunities and Kari Walker (11 points) netted the game-winner for Mullens.
Hannah Franklin led FMS with eight points. Other scorers were: Faith Norris, 7; Kendall Malay, 4; Rachel Mankins, 2; Caroline Fenton, 2; and Savannah Kincaid, 2.
Besides Walker, point producers for Mullens were: Kyndle Johnson, 4; Katie Griffith, 4; Lexi Booth, 5; Karah Culicerto, 2; and Phoebe Zeboskey, 1.

Last Wednesday, Valley’s balanced attack led to the easy triumph on the road.
For the Greyhound boys, Devin Williams had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Tracy Conliffe supplied eight points, 16 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Laytner Smith provided eight points and seven boards, and Nathan Kincaid had seven points and six rebounds.
Other scorers included: Garyn Pritt, 4; Spencer Dean, 4; Corey Cupples, 4; Jaylun Craig, 3; Britt Armentrout, 2; Jimmy Harper, 2; Nick Gipson, 1; and Adam Falbo, 1.
