Fayetteville Middle School raised its football record to 3-2 Thursday with an 18-6 conquest of host Valley.
The Pirates pulled away from a 6-6 halftime tie with a pair of touchdowns — a 7-yard run by Jordan Dempsey in the third period and a 5-yard burst by Dustin Bailey in the final frame — to earn the win. Bailey’s score, his second of the night, was set up by a 25-yard catch on fourth down by Jonathan Malay.
Bailey had 60 yards and two TDs on 10 carries for FMS. Malay snared two passes for 50 yards, and Trent Pullens caught a 17-yard pass. Christian Lively had five carries for 37 yards and caught a 2-yard pass. Micah Bates caught three passes for 23 yards and ran four times for seven stripes. Kris Wilson had two carries for 9 yards.
Dempsey enjoyed a solid game, rushing eight times for 101 yards and a score and going 9-for-17 for 87 yards through the air.
The Pirate offensive line play was led by Jeffery McKnight, Lebron Carr, Gabe Mack, Logan Frantz and Sammy Pullens.
Bailey and Darrick McDowell recorded two sacks apiece to guide the defense. Bates had 14 tackles and Sammy Pullens recovered a fumble. Also contributing defensively were Kris Wilson, Jude Browning, Jarred James and Trent Pullens.
Valley (1-4) scored on a 30-yard fumble recovery in the final minute of the second quarter.
Fayetteville (3-2) hosts Meadow Bridge at 6 p.m. tonight.
