Oak Hill 11, Liberty 1
Frankie McGraw struck out five and walked none in the five-inning complete game Tuesday at Oak Hill.
Tyler Zimm (2-for-4) drove in a pair of runs for the Red Devils (11-0). Chris Chapman was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Jeff Shea had two hits for Liberty.
“Defensively, we played real well,” said Oak Hill coach Chris Walls. “Liberty came out putting the ball in play, and that helped us.
“And Frankie threw a lot of ground balls.”
Oak Hill entertains Shady Spring Thursday and Nicholas County Friday before visiting Wyoming East Saturday.
Fayetteville 23, Meadow Bridge 5
Fayetteville capitalized on several Meadow Bridge errors with timely extra-base hits to pounce on the Wildcats in five innings Tuesday.
Of the Pirates’ 14 hits, eight were doubles. Nich Carte went 3-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs, and Troy Hopkins collected a pair of doubles in three at-bats and drove in two runs. Also contributing for the Pirates were: Brandon Fox, 1-2, double, 2 RBIs; Vernon Farrell, double, 2 RBIs; Frankie Bragg, double, RBI; Dylan Young, 2 RBIs; Jason Young, double, 2 RBIs; and Ryan Alton, double, RBI.
Carte picked up his first mound win of the season, allowing four runs in two innings. In relief, Hopkins yielded one unearned run and Farrell finished the game.
Fayetteville, which led 13-4 after two innings, played well defensively, committing only one error and giving up four Wildcat hits.
Tyler Bennett led MB (0-4) with a homer and two RBIs, and Kyle McGee (1-for-2, double) and Nathan Neely (1-for-2) each knocked in a run.
The Pirates (5-4) travel to Buckhannon-Upshur Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 (JV) with the varsity game to follow.
G. West 10, Midland Trail 9
Greenbrier West and Midland Trail combined for 12 errors but the host Cavaliers held off a seventh-inning rally to secure the win Tuesday.
Jon Myles and Chase Fitzwater both went 3-for-4 to lead West.
Dustin Nickell homered for the Patriots. Nickell and Jake Crist were both 2-for-4.
Valley 12, Richwood 5
Catcher Josh Thompson homered, doubled and drove in four runs as the Greyhounds won for the sixth time.
Pitcher Robert Van Meter scattered eight hits and struck out 14.
Mark Hammond had two doubles for the homestanding Lumberjacks.
Valley hosts Midland Trail Thursday in the Greyhounds’ home opener.
Meadow Bridge 11, Mount Hope 9
Kelly Forren went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and was the winning pitcher for Meadow Bridge Tuesday.
Leah Whitt was also perfect in four at-bats for the Wildcats (3-4), who visit Greenbrier West Thursday.
Courtney Worrell was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Mustangs (1-5). Michelle Suttle was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs, and K. Aurednik was 3-for-3.
Valley 20-21, Mount Hope 2-5
The Greyhound softball squad swept a twin-bill from the Mustangs Monday.
Valley plated eight runs in the first to cruise to the initial victory.
Valley pitcher Emily Donato limited the Mustangs to two hits while striking out five and walking one.
At the plate, Donato — with a homer and two RBIs — was among a handful of productive Greyhounds. Also, Brooke Belmont registered a triple and drove in three runs, Casey Nichols had three RBIs, Kara McGraw was 2-for-2 with a round-tripper and a pair of RBIs, Rachael Hamrick, Heather Tolley and Madison McDermott supplied two RBIs apiece, and Caitlin Elliott was 1-for-2.
Virginia Williams (two RBIs) and Courtney Worrell were both 1-for-2 for Mount Hope.
In the nightcap, VHS led 6-2 after three innings but erupted for 15 runs in the last two frames.
Crystal Jordan (3-for-5, double) and Megan Begley (2-for-4, double) drove in four runs each for the winners. Also, Elizabeth Beard was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, Keeley Abbott was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and McDermott (2-for-4), Sabrina Lopetrone (2-for-5), Elliott (double) and Megan Willis each provided one RBI.
For Mount Hope, L. Laramee drove in two runs and Amanda Syner and A. Wingrove had one RBI each.
Elliott secured the mound win with relief help from Willis. Each pitcher struck out three Mustangs.
On the afternoon, Valley was aided by 18 Mount Hope errors.
