MB Wildcats move to 5-1

FAYETTEVILLE — Meadow Bridge earned a 36-16 win over host Fayetteville Thursday in middle school football action.

The win hiked the Wildcats’ record to 5-1.

“It was one of the better games we’ve played,” said Meadow Bridge coach Brandon Wickline.

“The line blocked real well.”

Eighth-grader Thomas Ferris exploded for 397 yards and five touchdowns on 14 carries to lift the Wildcat offense.

Ferris ran one two-point conversion in and passed to his brother, Morgan Ferris, for another conversion. Brent McClanahan had the third conversion on a run.

The effort by Thomas Ferris was his third straight game with over 300 rushing yards.

“He’s a combination of it all,” Wickline said of Ferris. “He makes good cuts, he’s got great vision and he can run over you.”

For the Pirates, Dustin Bailey ran 14 times for 128 yards. He had a 60-yard touchdown reception from Jordan Dempsey and a two-point conversion run.

Jonathan Malay pulled in six receptions for 70 yards, including a 15-yard TD. He also had a two-point conversion reception.

Dempsey was 11-for-22 for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns and a two-point conversion.

McClanahan and Thomas Ferris led the MB defense with 14 tackles each.

Meadow Bridge hosts Montcalm at 6 p.m. Thursday then waits to see how other games play out to see who it hosts in the championship game on Oct. 31.
