CHARLESTON — The WVU Tech women’s soccer team ended its run in the 2013 USCAA National Tournament late last week.

The Golden Bears came into the tournament as the No. 10 seed and fell to the No. 2 seed Daemen College, 3-2, on Thursday, followed by a 2-0 loss to Florida College in the consolation game Friday, to conclude a 5-15 season.

To advance to the Daemen contest, Tech upset No. 7 Paul Smith’s College 2-0 Wednesday.

Against Daemen, Tech fell behind quickly when Kacey Bougard put one past the Golden Bear defense in the eighth minute at Schoenbaum Stadium.

Junior Sierrah Soto answered for WVU Tech when she netted a goal against Wildcat goalkeeper Rachel Reichart to tie the score at the 14:50 mark.

Sophomore Cassie Basile helped the Golden Bears gain a 2-1 lead in the 20th minute with a goal off the crossbar. Freshman Mary Crumb recorded her second assist of the game on the score.

Before the first half ended, Daemen evened the score to 2-2 after finding the back of Tech's net at 24:43.

The defense for either side didn’t allow a goal for the next 40 minutes.

Daemen put in the game-winning goal in the 66th minute.

Tech freshman goalkeeper Bridgett Goss recorded six saves in the matchup.

On Wednesday, Tech upset No. 7 seed Paul Smith’s.

Junior forward Creshana Jones struck first for Tech in the 39th minute. Crumb found Jones down field and delivered the perfect ball to her to mark Crumb’s first collegiate assist.

Neither team was able to convert for the next 30 minutes until freshman defender Alex Blumer came out of the backfield to score. Blumer knocked the ball past Paul Smith’s goalkeeper Asenath Brooks for an

unassisted goal at 68:12 to create a final score of 2-0.

The Tech defense held the Bobcats to just four shots, one on goal. As a team, Tech took 25 shots and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Goss recorded the shutout with one save.
