The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission has announced Fred Ferri as winner of the National Federation High School Coaches Association 2012 Coach of the Year award for boys basketball.
Coaches are honored annually for their outstanding commitment to the athletes of West Virginia.
According to the WVSSAC press release, “Coach Ferri has demonstrated excellence and leadership in the coaching profession. … We appreciate your dedication to the sport of boys basketball and your commitment to the development of young people throughout the state of West Virginia.”
Ferri retired at the end of the 2011-12 basketball season after having coached the Oak Hill High boys to an 184-95 overall record and two state championships in 11 seasons. Prior to that, he was an assistant to both Jim Lilly and Ron Lewis, helping coach two other OHHS state champion squads in the process.
Ferri will be among the coaches honored at the boys state basketball tournament in March in Charleston.
