— Get fit and know you are helping children in need at the first ever Crossfit Beckley 5K run for Just For Kids on June 1 at Beckley Rail Trail directly opposite the Chick-fil-A on North Eisenhower Drive.

Just For Kids Executive Director Scott Miller said during this fun twist on a 5K run, participants will stop at five Crossfit stations along the route to perform sit-ups, push-ups and three other exercises.

Already 20 individuals have registered.

The registration fee is $25 and all proceeds from the run directly benefit Just For Kids.

“Because all of our services are free to the children and families we serve, Just For Kids must raise over $250,000 each year to cover the cost of providing those services,” said Miller. “Each year we receive generous support from the United Way, the National Children’s Alliance, United Bank, and numerous private foundations. We also rely on state funding and individual donations. These funds support a staff of five that work hard to reduce the trauma that children experience when they are victimized by abuse.”

Last year Just For Kids interviewed nearly 400 children in Raleigh, Wyoming and Fayette counties.

“I want to thank Crossfit Beckley for organizing this event for Just For Kids. Community support for the work we do is so important, and this event is a great way to show your support for the challenging and vital work that Just For Kids provides,” Miller said.

New counseling techniques are proving to be effective in helping children re-enter their changed world, he explained.

The trauma of abuse lasts a lifetime, but the impact of that abuse can be reduced through the work of child advocacy centers.

“Just For Kids is dedicated to continuing to provide these services, even with the changing economy. We must continue to rely on both public and private funds to make this happen,” he stated.

The run will start at 9 a.m. with registration from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. T-shirts are available to those who pre-register. You can pick up a registration form at Crossfit Beckley or online at www.jfkwv.com, or call the Just For Kids office at 304-255-4834.
