Terri’s Tribute Golf Tournament enters fourth summer

— For the fourth summer in a row, C. Adam Toney’s Discount Tires is sponsoring the annual Terri’s Tribute Golf Tournament at Bridge Haven Golf Course in Fayetteville.

The four-person scramble is set for an 8 a.m. shotgun start with registration at 7 a.m. Popular because of the cause, the course, door prizes and lunch, organizers say an afternoon scramble may be added if the morning sells out.

This year’s event will be staged on June 1.

“Golfers pay $50 per person and receive a golf towel, a Chick-Fil-A coupon, a light breakfast, 18 holes of golf, door prizes and a lunch by Pasquale’s, plus their support of a good cause,” said organizer Anthony Treadway.

Hole sponsors are available for $100. There will be a closest-to-pin cash prize and hole-in-one prize of $10,000.

Terri’s Tribute, organized as a memorial to Terri Treadway Massey who lost a four-year battle in 2009, uses the golf tournament as its major fundraiser.

“We have two simple goals,” said Treadway, “We raise money for scholarships for Terri’s kids and other kids who’ve lost a parent to breast cancer, and we raise awareness about breast cancer through our world’s longest pink scarf project.”

Terri’s Tribute members will award its first scholarship to a graduating Fayette County student prior to the start of the tournament.  “Although the reason a student receives a scholarship is sad in and of itself,” said Treadway, “it’s also a hopeful and celebratory way to memorialize a loved one by encouraging higher education, something every parent would find peace in knowing.”

The world’s longest pink ribbon scarf, now 5,664 feet in length, will continue to grow, but pieces may now be darned into lap blankets for chemo patients. “We continue to add length to the scarf, but our goal was also to make lap blankets for chemo patients.” Scarf instructions have been modified to best suit this phase of the project. The first blankets, created by Kay Bess, were given to Jamie Massey and Chelsey Light. Jordan and Josh Massey also received blankets as keepsakes.
