Local athletes headed to states

Fayette County athletes will be among those competing this weekend in the annual West Virginia high school track and field championships in Charleston.

Following is a list of local qualifiers:

Fayetteville

-- Jonathan Gore — boys 100-meter dash (11.70 seconds, won region), 200 (23.19, won region, 2nd best qualifying time) and long jump (21 feet, 4 inches, won region, best qualifying distance)

-- Tracey Lovins — boys 100 (12.18), 200 (24.24) and 400 (53.97)

-- Timothy Holster — boys 300 hurdles (44.99)

-- Breana Bennett, Emily Akers, Emma Ellis and Joelene Rogers — girls 4x400 relay (5:29.59)

Meadow Bridge

-- Dakota Clere — boys 800 (2:11.0)

Midland Trail

-- Ethan Barker — boys 100 (11.98) and 200 (23.43, 4th best qualifier)

-- Austin Burdette — boys 200 (24.85)

-- Devon Steele — boys 800 (2:10.98, won region) and 1600 (5:06.74, won region)
