Waller camp gears grapplers to success

OAK HILL — During the week of June 11-15, Collins Middle School staged its annual wrestling camp — the 2012 Rob Waller’s All-American Wrestling Camp.

Instructors included Rob Waller, a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame. As a wrestler, he won the NJCAA 142-pound national championship in 1970 and was a two-time Olympic Trials finalist (1972 and 1976).

Waller has been the head clinician and director of the All-American Wrestling Camps since 1973.

Robbie Waller, a 2003 NCAA champion from the University of Oklahoma, joined him to instruct the wrestlers. The younger Waller is a two-time NCAA All-American and a Pennsylvania high school state champion. He’s now the head coach at Lock Haven University.

Participants were as follows:

• Collins Middle/New River — Moses Truman, Connor Gibson, Elijah Evans, Samuel Evans, Mason Kump, Trenton Casto, Noah Casto, Zach Barber, Herbie Meador, Tanner Harris, Marc Williams, Cody Gillespie, Philip McClung, Troy Harris and Judah Price;

• Point Pleasant — Brandon Edge;

• Eastern Greenbrier — Adam Faulkner and Gabe Patton;

• Greenville, N.C. — Cameron Lester;

• Western Greenbrier — Chase Patterson and Chance Withrow;

• Independence/Young Guns — Bryce Perdue, Noah Adams, Dillon Perdue and Hunter Taylor;

• Mahindra Wrestling — Caleb Haynes, Trey Harmon, Michael Milam and Josh Humphreys; and

• Princeton — Greg Worley, Josh Holbrook, Ashton Adams and Cole Hollifield.
