Sports Briefs


— An organizational meeting will be held Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at Oak Hill High School for students wishing to play for the girls soccer team. Practice schedules, policies and an opportunity to meet the new coaches make up the evening’s agenda.

To be eligible for competition, students must have a physical and complete a required WVSSAC medical form, provide proof of insurance, meet academic requirements (and provide a copy of their latest report card), and participate in a minimum of 14 practices. Practice is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 5 at 7 a.m. at the Oak Hill High School fields.

Parents are encouraged to attend the meeting.

Those wishing to play, but who are not able to attend the meeting, should call 304-640-3778.

This summer, free golf lessons are being offered at Hawks Nest Golf Course near Gauley Bridge.

Children ages 7 to 12 are taught on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m.

Children ages 13 to 17 are taught on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m.

Golf equipment and balls will be provided at no cost.

Lessons are being taught by Chuck Goosman.

Coaches at the college, high school, junior varsity, junior high and recreational league (adult or youth) levels are urged to submit game results and updated statistics to The Fayette Tribune and The Montgomery Herald.

When turning in scores or statistics, coaches/statisticians are reminded to provide at least last names of participants; information will not be accepted with only the first name.

When they are available, rosters and schedules for the fall season can be submitted.
