Nine more qualify for W.Va. Amateur

LEWISBURG — The fourth of six West Virginia Amateur qualifiers was held last week.

Nine golfers moved on to the championship, which is set for Aug. 5-8.

Josh Boswell, of Alderson, was medalist of the qualifier, shooting a 3-under-par 67 at Lewisburg Elks Country Club. Even par was the lucky score to make it into this year’s championship. One of those who qualified, Oceana’s Colin Bowles, 13, will be one of the youngest players to ever play in the event.

Local participants, all non-qualifiers, included:

- Craig Buchanan, Oak Hill — 38-42—80

- David Gorby, Mount Hope — 41-41—82

- Brad Compton, Oak Hill — 39-47—86.
