Free golf lessons are being offered once again this season at Hawk Nest Golf Course.

Lessons for children ages 7 to 12 are held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, and lessons for children 13 to 17 are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

Mountain State University will have several basketball camp for boys and girls in the coming weeks.

The camps will be under the direction of MSU head coach Bob Bolen and assisted by Dave Barksdale, Artis Maddox, Ryan Arrowood, Zane Gilliard and Mike Fowlkes.

Upcoming dates include July 10-12.

There will also be one-hour individual sessions on several days.

Camp director Holly Mauldin has scheduled Mountain State University’s 2012 volleyball camps for 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. July 16-20 for ages 8 to 12; and 9 a.m. to noon July 23-27 for ages 13 to 17. The cost is $100 per camper, and enrollment is limited to 40 campers per session.

The camps will take place in the J.R. Van Meter Gymnasium on MSU’s Beckley campus.

Campers will participate in a variety of activities to develop and improve their volleyball skills. Techniques for conditioning, passing, setting, attacking, blocking and serving will be presented and practiced.

Competition offered at various levels will give campers a chance to practice their skills in game situations. Campers should wear appropriate volleyball apparel, and should bring a water bottle and knee pads each day. All participants receive a camp t-shirt and awards will be presented on the last day of camp.

-- Women’s volleyball camp — Aug. 6-10, 9 a.m. to noon; individual skills camp (beginners and intermediate levels), Aug. 6-10, 9 a.m. to noon. This session is geared for all individuals who want to improve skills before trying out for middle school or high school teams. Tuition: $150 per camper. The full amount of the registration fee must be sent in with application.

The Concord University men’s basketball program will conduct its annual Mountain Lion Boys’ Basketball Instructional Camp, under the direction of head coach Kent McBride. The date for the camp is July 18 to 21, on the campus of Concord University. For more information, contact McBride at 304-384-5330 or e-mail at coachmcbride@concord.edu.

The instructional camp will range for children ages 8 to 18. Cost is $200 for residential campers and $170 for commuters, which will include lunch and dinner daily.

Book tickets good for all sessions of the 2013 WV Boys High School Basketball Tournament are on sale by mail order only through the Charleston Civic Center box office. Ticket order forms are available at the Civic Center box office and may be downloaded from www.charlestonwvciviccenter.com. Tournament dates are March 13-16.

Ticket orders may be made requesting up to ten books of tickets priced at $64 each. Ticket orders should be addressed as follows: 2013 Boys State High School Basketball Tournament Tickets; 200 Civic Center Drive, Charleston, WV 25301.

The boys tournament is the premiere sporting event in West Virginia, attracting more than 80,000 annually.

The event will be celebrating its 100th  year.

When turning in scores or statistics, coaches/statisticians are reminded to provide at least last names of participants; information will not be accepted with only the first name.
