OAK HILL —
The 11th annual Johnnie Ferri Softball Tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4 at Collins Park.
Proceeds from the co-ed tournament benefit the Johnnie Ferri Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a senior at Oak Hill High School.
According to Meigs Conley, Ferri’s daughter and one of the tournament organizers, last year’s tourney was a “huge success.” Thirteen teams participated, with Richard Scott’s ‘Gillbuilders’ team taking home the title. Gillbuilders will return to defend their crown this year.
“It’s said it takes a team to cover all the bases, and the teamwork of all those who devoted their time and energy and donated contributed to the tourney’s success,” Conley said.
Conley offered thanks to the following: umpires Pat Murphy, Danny Hamilton, Andy Hudson, William “Chico’ Jones and more; the field crew of Dave Schoolcraft, David Schoolcraft, Hank Shuff and Shannon Smith; the Ferri and Conley families, Team Kenneth, Mary Kidd, Jay’s Vending, Pepsi, Dow Jones Development, White Oak Country Club, Cantrell’s, Don Patron, Brian Bennett Photography, Pear Tree, Wisteria Gifts, Dove’s, Pies & Pints, Diogi’s, Cafe One Ten, Dirty Ernie’s Old Hickory Pit, Winterplace, Elder Beerman, Pine Haven, Bella Blue Cupboard, Cheap Thrills, Action Printing and Southern States.
