Sports briefs

The John A. Flournoy Youth Basketball League will hold a golf tournament fundraiser on Oct. 12 starting at 8:30 a.m. at Brier Patch Golf Links in Beckley.

The event will be a four-man scramble format with shotgun start.

Entry fee is $300 per team ($75/person).

Lunch will be provided at the course.

There will be prizes for hole-in-one, closest to pin, longest putt and longest drive, as well as numerous other prizes.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100.

The net proceeds benefit the various programs of the basketball league.

Coaches at the college, high school, junior varsity, junior high and recreational league (adult or youth) levels are urged to submit game results and updated statistics to The Fayette Tribune and The Montgomery Herald.

When turning in scores or statistics, coaches/statisticians are reminded to provide at least last names of participants; information will not be accepted with only the first name.

The 15th annual Greenbrier Valley Toughman event will be held on Nov. 1 and 2 at the State Fair Grounds, inside the WV Building.

Fighter’s registrations are now being accepted for the single-elimination boxing tournament that is open to area men and women, ages 18 to 35, with no pro fights and limited amateur experience.

Prospective Toughman and Toughwoman fighters, as well as ring girls, may enter online at or by phone at 1-800-296-3897. There are no entry fees.
