Bobcats win 39-32 thriller over MB

From Staff Reports

— Senior Isaiah Brown scored five touchdowns to lead Class AA No. 6 Summers County to a thrilling, 39-32 win over Class A No. 12 Meadow Bridge Friday in a back-and-forth struggle on senior night in Hinton.

Brown opened the scoring on a 36-yard pass from Matt Ryan only to see the Wildcats answer with two scores, a 15-yard pass from Ryan Church to Craig Peters and a 5-yard run by workhorse back Jake Parker.

Brown put the Bobcats back on top in the second quarter with two more touchdown runs for a 21-16 halftime lead, and then opened the third quarter with a 60-yard jaunt to push the lead to 27-16.

Parker broke free on the next Wildcats possession and was heading for the end zone when Brown chased him down and saved a crucial score as the Bobcats held on downs.

Parker would find the end zone from 2 yards out later in the quarter after a defensive stop by the Wildcats to close the gap to 27-24.

The fourth quarter opened with the Bobcats facing a crucial fourth-and-4 from the Wildcats’ 34. Jaquan Ayers broke through the center of the line for a 19-yard gain that set up Brown to score from 15 yards out on the next play and to make it 33-24.

After an exchange of possessions, the Bobcats lined up to punt late in the fourth quarter. The snap sailed over the punter’s head and Meadow Bridge had the ball on the Bobcats’ 15-yard line. Parker later scored from 3 yards out, making the score 33-32.

Summers County recovered the onside kick attempt and tried to run out the clock on the last play and not give the ball back to the Wildcats, Brown broke loose down the sidelines for a 66-yard touchdown to end a wild night.

Brown finished with 188 yards, Smith had 120 yards and Ayers gained 90 yards for Summers County.

For Meadow Bridge (6-2), Parker registered 208 yards on 37 carries to go along with his three touchdowns.

Also Friday, Valley stayed unbeaten with a 38-15 conquest of Parkersburg Catholic and Midland Trail improved to 3-4 with a 34-26 win over host Montcalm.
