Golden Bear baseball squad drops two to Rio Grande

On Sunday, the WVU Tech Golden Bears were tagged with a pair of baseball losses at the University of Rio Grande (Ohio), 7-0, 5-0, at Bob Evans Field.

Marc-Richard Culmer had three hits to pace the Tech offense in the nightcap. Senior first baseman Zach Sizemore, senior pinch hitter Mike Ryan and freshman third baseman James Utterback each logged a hit during the series.

Tommy Weaver (1-1) struck out two in 3.0 innings of work in game one, giving up five hits and one earned run.

Junior Zack Thomas yielded two hits after facing five batters before freshman Jordon Mounts came in to finish the game. In 2.0 innings of work, Mounts was able to hold the Storm hitless with six pitches.

In the second game, junior Craig Johnson (1-3) pitched 4.0 innings for the loss, striking out four while giving up three earned runs on seven hits. In relief, junior JC Spears allowed one earned run and three hits while walking one batter.

Tech (7-11) was slated to play Shawnee State University Wednesday.
