Pirate boys win sixth straight

Fayetteville scored in five of its six innings at the plate to roll past Webster County Monday.

Jake Cogar pounded out three hits, including a double, and had two RBIs, while Will Dooley added a triple and a single and drove in three runs to lead the Pirates (5-2).

Will Fenton grabbed the mound win and pushed his record to 3-0 on the young season.

Chase McCourt led the Highlanders with three hits.

Fayetteville followed the WC win with a 15-5 verdict over Van on Tuesday, the Pirates’ sixth straight victory.

The Pirates play at Richwood today at 5:30 p.m. and at Man at 6 p.m. on Friday. They face Richlands, Va. in the Coppinger Tournament on Saturday and then host Westside at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 7.

Oak Hill 12

Oak Hill (2-1) built up a 7-0 lead, fell behind 11-7 and then rallied with five runs in the seventh to knock off St. Albans (2-1) in dramatic fashion last Thursday.

The Red Devils got a game-winning single off the bat of freshman Jacob Cassidy to secure the victory for Daniel Pritt, who helped himself at the plate with a 3-for-5 effort that included a double and a pair of RBIs.

Ricky Epperly went 3-for-5 with five RBIs for Oak Hill, and starting pitcher Chris Hysell drove in four more.

Oak Hill plays at Woodrow Wilson at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 4. The Red Devils entertain Wyoming East at 1 p.m. this Saturday, then host Webster County at 5:30 p.m. on April 7.

Fayetteville broke open a tie game with two runs in the top half of the sixth inning to defeat the Bobcats 8-6 Thursday.

Dylan Doyle pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the win, and Will Fenton slammed the door shut in the seventh for the save.

Will Dooley led the Pirate hitters with a double and four RBIs, while Troy Farrell collected three hits and an RBI.

Emily Day struck out 14 batters to lead the Warriors past the Pirate girls last Thursday.

Kaitlyn Sisler recorded nine strikeouts and had two hits, including a double, for Fayetteville.

Fayetteville went on to defeat Richwood 14-6 on Tuesday to raise its record to 1-4.

The Pirates visit Richwood at 5:30 p.m. today and play at Midland Trail at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. They travel to Nicholas County on Monday.

Cassadee Blankenship surrendered just two hits to lead Westside past visiting Oak Hill Thursday.

Aly Fleenor had two hits for the Renegades.

Hanna Powers had a triple and Ciera Workman had a single for the Red Devils.

On the heels of a 14-6 conquest of Mount View last week, Oak Hill defeated Valley 2-1 on Monday and topped PikeView 7-4 on Tuesday to hike its record to 3-2.

The Red Devils visit Shady Spring at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and play at Liberty at noon on Saturday. They entertain James Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Fayetteville pushed eight runs across home plate in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Van 15-5 early last week.

James Criss and Will Dooley led the Pirates with three hits, while Troy Farrell, Caleb Bailes and Dalton Dempsey added two hits apiece. Dempsey and Zach Hopkins drove in two runs each.

Will Fenton collected the win, yielding just four base hits.

Joseph Eckert hurled a one-hit shutout, striking out 14 batters, and drove in two runs to lead the Greyhounds past Midland Trail 18-0 last Wednesday.

Raeshawn Breckenridge smacked a triple, a home run and drove in four runs to lead Valley at the plate.

Druw Bowen recorded two hits, including a double and one RBI, while John Riddle and Tyler Price each drove in two runs for the ‘Hounds.

Nick Brewer had the lone hit for the Patriots.
