The John A. Flournoy Youth Basketball League will stage a golf tournament fundraiser on Aug. 11 at Bridge Haven Golf Club near Fayetteville.

The tournament, a four-man scramble beginning at 8:30 a.m., is now accepting entrants and hole sponsors.

Entry fee is $200 per team. Lunch will be provided. Participants can win a new car by hitting a hole-in-one. There will be numerous other prizes.

The league serves mainly the communities in the Midland Trail High School geographical region. The league conducts a recreational season, sponsors AAU teams, conducts clinics and summer camps, and sponsors a high school summer league. This year the league intends to provide financial support for the boys and girls basketball programs at Midland Trail.

The Midland Trail High boys soccer team will begin practice Monday, July 30 at 2:30 p.m. at the Midland Trail High School baseball field.

Those interested in playing must be academically eligible and bring a completed West Virginia SSAC physical form with them to the opening practice.

Players should also have running shoes, soccer cleats and shin guards.

Physical forms can be printed from the SSAC web site (www.wvssac.org) or can be obtained by calling MTHS coach Dave Pollard at 304-640-3778.

The New River Gorge Challenge Weekend is slated for Aug. 4 and 5.

The race, sponsored by Hometown Subaru, can be contested individually or in teams.

The New River Gorge Challenge, which begins in Fayetteville, is slated for Saturday, Aug. 4. More information can be found at newrivergorgechallenge.com.

The second day of the weekend will consist of the Thurmond Triathlon, a beginner-friendly race which consists of a 2-mile bike, 1.5-mile paddle and 2-mile run that will be held in Thurmond.

Anyone pre-registering will be provided a ducky by ACE Adventure Resort to use for the 1.5-mile paddle on the mild section of the New River. Registration forms can be obtained by emailing thurmondwv@gmail.com or stopping by the New River Gorge Convention & Visitor Bureau on Oyler Avenue.

Coaches at the college, high school, junior varsity, junior high and recreational league (adult or youth) levels are urged to submit game results and updated statistics to The Fayette Tribune. Baseball and softball all-star information can be supplied, as well.

When turning in scores or statistics, coaches/statisticians are reminded to provide at least last names of participants; information will not be accepted with only the first name.
