Tech announces cross country, volleyball coaching hires

MONTGOMERY — WVU Institute of Technology Athletics Director Frank Pergolizzi Tuesday welcomed new personnel to the school.

Pergolizzi announced the appointment of Jason Hendrix as sports information director and head cross country coach, and the appointment of Jaclyn Buchanan as head volleyball coach.

“We are very excited to have Jackie assume leadership of the volleyball program,” Pergolizzi said in a press release.

“We look forward to continued growth and improvement in Tech volleyball.”

Buchanan has coached collegiately at Lander University, Limestone College and Union College. She has also served as Junior Olympic coach for Club South Volleyball in South Carolina.

“I am excited to become a WVU Tech Golden Bear,” she said. “I look forward to my return to this competitive level of coaching and play.

“I am confident that with my expertise, the girls’ talents and the caliber of the school, our endeavors will be successful. I thank everyone at Tech for this wonderful opportunity.”

Buchanan will also serve as assistant softball coach.

At Tech, Hendrix will be responsible for all aspects of media relations, social media promotions, video production and public relations tools for the Golden Bears, while guiding the men’s and women’s cross country programs.

“I am very excited and privileged to be a part of this athletics department,” Hendrix said.

“The Golden Bear tradition, its level of athletic and academic excellence, and its ever-growing potential is a great opportunity to be a part of, and I am looking forward to great things to come.”

Hendrix comes to Montgomery by way of Saint Paul’s School in Clearwater, Fla. There, he handled media relations, publications and production and design of all marketing, development, admissions, advancement and athletic materials.

Prior to Saint Paul’s, Hendrix was a sports information department intern, photographer and digital media artist with Florida State University. At FSU, he earned a master’s degree in sports management in 2011. Hendrix specialized in statistical research, photography and digital media guides with the football, women’s and men’s basketball, softball, baseball, track and field and cross country programs.

Hendrix also spent three years working in the sports information office as a student aid for Georgia College. A native of Palmetto, Ga., he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and was a two-year varsity cross country standout and was the recipient of the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Scholars Award.
