The 2013-14 girls high school basketball season got under way earlier this week, and the boys are setting their sights on games beginning next week.
Among the opening action was Valley’s 56-36 victory over visiting Greenbrier West on Tuesday.
The Valley girls, led by new coach John Hammonds, will next host Oak Hill, now being coached by former longtime VHS coach Marshall Murray, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. The Greyhounds will then visit Fayetteville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The Riverside girls will entertain Elk Valley Christian at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5. That will be followed by a 5 p.m. home contest against St. Albans on Dec. 13.
Among girls teams opening up tonight will be Fayetteville, Meadow Bridge and Oak Hill. Fayetteville will travel to Independence at 7:30 p.m., Meadow Bridge will play at Liberty at 7 p.m., and Oak Hill will entertain Greenbrier West at 7:30 p.m.
The Midland Trail girls will open their season under new coach Matt Harper with a 7:30 p.m. game Friday, Dec. 6 at rival Fayetteville.

-- Monday, Dec. 16 — Fayetteville boys at Valley, 7:30 p.m.

The Valley High boys will have two preseason scrimmages at home in the coming days: versus Roane Co. at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5; and versus Riverside at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12.

Coaches at the college, high school, junior varsity, middle school and recreational league (adult or youth) levels are urged to submit game results and updated statistics to The Fayette Tribune and The Montgomery Herald.
When turning in scores or statistics, coaches/statisticians are reminded to provide at least last names of participants; information will not be accepted with only the first name.
Winter rosters and schedules can be submitted when they’re available.
