Thomas eyes fight

— Professional boxer Bobby Thomas, Jr., of Oak Hill, is making final preparations for a main event bout that is scheduled this Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Black Bear Casino, near Duluth, Minnesota.

Thomas’ opponent will be Al Sands (pro record 10-1, 10 KOs) of Duluth.

Thomas is a former two-time Toughman champion and is also a two-time West Virginia state champion who has won both the cruiserweight and the heavyweight division professional boxing titles.

His professional record is 12-1-1 with nine KOs.

Except for an exhibition bout in Pittsburgh in 2011, when Thomas boxed Roy Jones, Jr., this Saturday’s bout will be his first regular competition outside his home state.

Thomas is trained by Sam Jones and Steven Angus.

He is managed and promoted by Jerry Thomas.
