MB girls, Fayetteville boys pick up basketball victories

The Meadow Bridge girls registered a big basketball win in front of their home fans Monday night, knocking off Class A No. 8 Fayetteville to win their sixth straight game and improve to 14-5.

“No doubt that’s the biggest win of the year for us,” said Meadow Bridge coach Steve Taylor. “All phases of the game came together.

“We thought we could (beat the Pirates), but Fayetteville’s a really good team. We’re getting healthy and we’re playing well.”

Senior Chandra Harrah scored 18 points to lead the Wildcats, while fellow senior Sarah Fleshman had 17. Allison Gilkerson collected a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Caitlin White tossed in 12 points.

Jessica Brown scored 21 for the Pirates (13-5), while Erica Hogan and Maddie Pritt added 11 each.

Fayetteville plays at Independence Friday then hosts Class AAA power Greenbrier East at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Fayette County Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building.

Sherman 66

The Fayetteville boys rallied back from 11 down with a 20-point fourth quarter to force overtime en route to a 69-66 win over Sherman Tuesday.

Fayetteville’s Zach Semple led all scorers with 27 points. Tyler McVey had 15 — all on 3-point goals — and Jake Alton had 12.

Sherman was led by Blake Brewer and Cody Muncy with 15 points each.

Fayetteville played at Valley last night. The Pirates host rival Midland Trail this Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with a jayvee game and a varsity girls game pitting Greenbrier East and Fayetteville preceding the boys contest.
