The 25th annual Tri-State Original Toughman Contest will be held Jan. 11 and 12 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington.
This year’s event will feature up to eight weight classes (four for men and four for women), plus a featured professional boxing bout, with state cruiserweight champion Bobby Thomas, Jr. defending his title against Warren “Hitman” Browning in a scheduled 10-round bout on the second night of the event. Thomas, of Oak Hill, has a pro record of 11-1 with eight KO’s and Browning’s record is 17-2 with 12 KO’s.
Fighter registrations are now being accepted for the single-elimination boxing tournament, which is open to area men and women ages 18 to 35 with no pro fights and limited amateur experience. All bouts are scheduled for three one-minute rounds, with all fighters wearing 16-ounce gloves, protective headgear and a mouth piece. All applicants must be in good physical condition. The weight divisions for both men and women are: lightweight (up to 139 pounds), middleweight (140-159), light heavyweight (160-184) and heavyweight (185-400).
Fighters and ring girls may enter online at wvtoughman.com or by calling 1-800-296-3897.
