Chamber business show continues to thrive, verifies strong ties to the community

Opinion: The Register-Herald, Beckley, W.Va.

Staff and members of the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce have been busier than usual the past few weeks, and that’s a good thing for our area.

Late last month, nearly 800 people packed the local convention center for the chamber’s annual dinner, which was a ringing success and is still being talked about throughout the area.

On Wednesday and Thursday, thousands turned out to set up displays and participate in the 15th yearly version of the Chamber Business Show.

Occasionally the pessimists out there question why such functions need to take place and they claim they aren’t effective growth tools — a waste if you will.

So sometimes it takes an unsolicited viewpoint from the outside to really let you know just how important and vital these kinds of events are for the community and its future.

A respected businessman from another part of the state, who had the opportunity to attend both the dinner and business show, said Wednesday the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber was the most active and effective group of that sort that he has ever been around.

You see, it’s easy to blow your own horn, but when others who are watching from afar take note and make such observations, it verifies the belief of many that teaming up and working together make a difference.

And the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce makes a positive difference in our region.
