The Ansted High School Class of 1954 celebrated its 60-year reunion with a picnic at Hawks Nest State Park on June 20 and a dinner at Hawks Nest State Lodge on June 21.
In attendance were Phyllis Rogers Baker, Naomi Hendricks Whipkey, William Crump Jr., Doris Hawver Kenney, Kay Gill Skaggs, Patricia Ewing Davis, Norma Schott Russo, Nell Skaggs Murphy, Sue Ann Nuckols Wilson, Fred Teubert, Lamerne Withrow Arthur, Carlos “Dick” McGraw, Charles Reynolds, David Hess, Pat Stanton, Galen Steele, Larry Masse, Danny Cavendish and Marilene Skaggs Bibb.

The Class of 1954 invited members of AHS 1953 and AHS 1955 to the picnic. Bob Wells handled invitations for the class of 1953 and Phyllis Martin Massey handled invitations for the class of 1955. Gene Anderson, AHS Class of 1959, played a guitar, banjo guitar, and sang for the picnickers.
In addition to members of the class of 1954, the following AHS alumni attended the picnic: Bob Wells; Charlotte Wood; Boyd Hiser; Daniel Stone; Jerry and Phyllis Massey; Kay Holder; Pat and Eddie Blume; Bertie Lou Manion and her husband Jerry Schecter; Barbara and Jim Minter; Patty and Sam Fox; Paige and Ann Skaggs; Annabell Hodge; and Fred Stone.
The Piggly Wiggly Store at the mouth of Possum Creek Road catered the picnic with hot dogs, hamburgers, cole slaw, potato salad, chili for the hot dogs, and a variety of soft drinks.
Naomi Whipkey, Marilene Bibb, and Sue Ann Wilson planned the reunion.
The AHS Class of 1954 plans to meet for lunch at Hawks Nest Lodge in June of 2016. The next reunion is scheduled for 2019.
